The problem of the generation of resonant perturbations in the Earth’s magnetosphere is analyzed within the framework of ideal MHD. It is shown that a new type of resonances exist with the dominant component of displacement vector which lies in the plane normal to a magnetic surface. Equations of small oscillations for the frequencies of these resonances are obtained. It is established that in the magnetospheric plasma specific Alfvén resonances may exist determined by the environment compressibility.
