Remote laser sensing of the Earth from space. II. Methodological aspects of lidar measurements aboard an orbiting station

Some methodological aspects concerning the arrangement of space-borne experiments on the remote laser sensing of the Earth are considered using the BALKAN lidar as an example. These include the orbiting station and lidar orientation modes at the sounding session, planning experiment and ballistic calculations, corresponding ground support measurements, accompanying photometric measure­ments or video recording, problems of the spatial and temporal uncertainties of measurement data, algorithms of the lidar data interpretation, etc.
