Temporal changes of the secular variations of geomagnetic field in Europe

Abstract: We investigated temporal changes of the secular variations of geomagnetic field intensity using perennial series of observations of the European geomagnetic observatories. It is shown that secular variations have two components: the first – quasiconstant, from the internal sources, and the second – variable, from the external sources. The magnitude and sign of the external sources component is highly correlated to the magnitude and sign of the large scale magnetic field of the Sun and, correspondingly, to the magnitude and sign of the mean annual southern component of the interplanetary magnetic field.
