Abstract: A possible response of the middle latitude ionospheric D region to X-ray and optical flares is studied by ihe partial reflection technique The parameters of partial reflection signals, radio noise, and electron density are found to display characteristic features that appear in 15–25 min after X-ray bursts and last for about 15–30 min. We give a possible, physical interpretation of the results of the observations with taking into account X-ray emission rates.
