Abstract:
Space tethers are the systems of spacecrafts joined by flexible extended links. Larger extent, in comparison with conventional spacecrafts, causes stronger interaction of such systems with planetary external fields. Thanks to this, the space tethers allow one to solve a wide range of problems on space development. Some results of the researches for the last 40 years enable us to use the advantages of the space tethers. In particular, the space tethers can be used for waste space vehicle deorbit and for offset devices of conventional satellites.
Keywords: deorbit, planetary external field, space tethers
