Definition of critical loading of loss of stability for three layer payload fairing with elastic longitudinal joints

Abstract: The problem of elastic stability for three layer payload aerodynamic fairing with elastic longitudinal hinges loaded with external excessive pressure is considered. The calculation of parameters of critical external pressure was performed by finite elements method. The forms of loss of stability and values of critical loads were determined as a result of calculations. The estimation of influence of longitudinal hinges on the critical external pressure parameter was carried out. It was noted a good fit of results for extreme cases to well known solutions.
