Abstract:
A nonlinear mechanism for the transformation of Alfven–MHD waves into kinetic Alfven waves in a homogeneous magnetized plasma with a small plasma parameter β <<1 is proposed. A parametric instability is considered as a generation mechanism, where the magnetohydrodynamic Alfvén wave is the pump wave. Based on two-fluid magnetic hydrodynamics and the Vlasov equation, a nonlinear dispersion equation describing three-wave interaction is obtained. An increment, time, and threshold for the development of instability were found. It is shown that the considered nonlinear process is effective in the solar corona.
