We present some results of the direct study of the solid-liquid interface development in three-dimensional samples under directional solidification in different crystallographic directions in ground and microgravity conditions. The flight experimental set-up "MORPHOS" intended for the investigation of directional solidification of transparent substances is under development. The results of ground-based experiments with three-dimensional and quasi two-dimensional samples are presented.
